I have fond memories of watching The Lawrence Welk Show with my Grandma Avis. At the time, I didn’t truly appreciate the music or the simpler times. Now, I enjoy watching Lawrence Welk reruns on Ozarks Public Television. Plus, I am only about 30 miles from Branson, MO, where you can sometimes catch regulars from the show performing today.
I am old enough to remember seeing Grease in the theater. I believe it came out in 1978. Actually, I think I saw that particular movie at the Starlite Drive In Theater back in my hometown of Aberdeen, South Dakota. Sadly, the Starlite Drive In is no longer around. However, I am fairly close to not one, but two drive in theaters in southwest Missouri. There is one in Aurora, and another in Seymour.
After my Grandma Avis passed away a few years ago, I inherited one of her vintage phonograph players and record collection. I have several of her records, along with some of my mom’s from the ’50s and ’60s. Additionally, I have a few of my own, from the ’70s and ’80s, and a few that I picked up over the years at flea markets. Fortunately, the old phonograph still works, AND it has an fm radio tuner that works, too!
